The concept of scale and, consequently, of out-of-scale originates from the imposition of a system of rules in the relationship between man and nature, which led to the attribution of a negative meaning to what previously was not subject to moral judgment. Its origins and meaning are investigated starting from the first full-round representations of the human figure up to the highest results of Greek sculpture. In these works, harmonious and satisfying as a whole, the out-of-scale is carefully applied, resulting in an intentional design choice moved by the will to elevate man beyond his earthly dimension to approach the idea – archetype – of Man. The out-of-scale is the method of representing the distance between the ideal world and the formal world and moves in parallel with the search for beauty and perfection. In this sense, in art as in architecture, it lies beyond the moral sphere because it responds to a universal need inherent in human instinct.
Il concetto di scala e, conseguentemente, di fuori scala hanno origine dall’imposizione di un sistema di regole nel rapporto tra uomo e natura, fatto che ha così determinato l’attribuzione di un significato negativo a ciò che in precedenza non era soggetto a giudizio morale. Se ne indagano le origini e il significato a partire dalle prime rappresentazioni a tutto tondo della figura umana fino ai risultati più alti della scultura greca. In tali opere, armoniose e appaganti nell’insieme, il fuori scala è applicato con attenzione, risultando una scelta progettuale intenzionale dettata dalla volontà di elevare l’uomo oltre la propria dimensione terrena per avvicinarsi all’idea – all’archetipo – di Uomo. Il fuori scala costituisce il metodo di rappresentazione della distanza tra mondo ideale e mondo formale e muove i passi parallelamente all ricerca di bellezza e perfezione. In questo senso, in arte come in architettura, esso si colloca al di là della sfera morale poiché risponde a un bisogno universale intrinseco all’istinto umano.
